About Lost Voices

LostVoices is an organization founded to bring life-changing creative programs to incarcerated and at-risk young people.

We help these kids take a look into their hearts and write original roots music, then share their feelings by performing in front of their peers in a professional concert situation. Every group we've worked with has experienced tremendous personal growth and healing, not just among the direct program participants, but also among the other at-risk kids who see their peers exploring some of their most difficult thoughts and feelings on stage.

At the same time, the words and music produced in these programs shout out to the world that these young lives are worth saving. The three-minute PBS "interstitial" below will give you a  quick but powerful look at exactly what we're talking about. It documents our experience at the Adrian Girls Training School in the fall of 2006.

The outpouring of public support for our mission has been overwhelming, but we still have a lot of work left to do. If you can help, we would love to hear from you - please Register as a Lost Voices Supporter, then Send Us A Message and tell us what you can do!

One of the early milestones in the development of LostVoices was the mini-documentary Young Poet Incarcerated, a fifteen-minute film that delves into the soul of a troubled young man through his poetry. It provides a startling insight into the fears, anger, frustration, and hope that rules the lives of these kids.

The Roots Music interstitial video was produced by Michigan Television, in partnership with Michigan Humanities Council and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Concert For Lost Voices 2008 Thank You

00crowd3A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the 2008 Concert for Lost Voices.

I particularly want to thank the artists who gave so generously of their time and talents to make the "sophomore year" of our fundraiser such an overwhelming success; Josh White, Jr., Kitty DonohoePeter "Madcat" Ruth, the Unity of Ann Arbor Women's Ensemble, Cliff Gracey, and Guys With Guitars.

We also owe a debt of gratitude to our sponsors; The Michigan Braille Transcribing Fund, Zingerman's Deli, National City, Herb David Guitar Studio, People's Express, Seek Within, and WestWind Communications.

A Gallery of concert photographs, shot by our own Jessica Feltner, will be coming soon!
