This is a five minute story that aired on June 22, 23
and 24, 2006 on Michigan Radio, the University of Michigan NPR
affiliate. It highlights the Roots Music workshop at the WJ Maxey Boys
Training School in Whitmore Lake that LostVoices founder Mike Ball facilitated, along with folk
and acoustic blues legends Josh White, Jr. and Robert Jones.
Mike originally developed this program as an outreach
for the Northfield Township Library. It was partially funded by the
Michigan Humanities Council, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the
National Endowment for the Arts.

On October 30, 2006 Josh and Mike wrapped up the second Roots Music
Program at the W.J. Maxey Boys Training School with a fantastic
concert.
Reporter Maureen Feighan and photographer Brandy Baker from the Detroit News were there to cover it, and this article appeared on November 1.
The boys were outstanding in every aspect of the performance.
As he did for the first Maxey Roots program, Robert Jones was there to
add his acoustic blues magic.
This time, singer/songwriter Kitty Donohoe, who is working with Mike on
a Roots program at the Adrian Training School, did a "cameo" appearance
to preview the group song the girls from Adrian have written.
